Roots of Knowledge

Welcome to Roots of Knowledge, an initiative to break down barriers to on-farm education. By inviting the public onto our farms, we open a window into the realities of agriculture: the dedication, innovation, and hard work that sustain our food systems. These experiences allow individuals of all ages to see how food, fiber, and crops are grown, understand the challenges farmers face, and appreciate the essential role agriculture plays in our daily lives.

Growing Connections with On-Farm Education

Learning the Land, Straight from the Source

When people connect with the source of their food, they gain a renewed respect for the process, a better understanding of food systems, and a stronger commitment to supporting local farmers. These experiences cultivate a more informed and engaged community, ready to advocate for policies that protect and promote agriculture.

Barriers to On-Farm Education

Oregon land use law doesn't clearly allow on-farm education experiences outright on farmland. This causes serious problems for farmers who are just trying to educate the public about agriculture. Additionally, income restrictions often limit farmers’ ability to host ticketed educational events, farm tours, and agritourism activities.

Support On-Farm Education today!

It’s time to reconnect with our roots and support the farmers who are eager to share their stories. Join us in championing on-farm education—because the best lessons are learned in the field.
